Colored Egg Layer. These birds are excellent layers and produce eggs that range from olive green to turquise blue. This hardy breed was developed in the U.S. in the 1970's using Araucana birds from South America. Like their eggs, they come in as assortment of colors. They are favored for their eggs, but are large enough to be used for meat. Average mature weight: roosters 5 lbs, hens 4 lbs.

Delightful Chicks!, March 13, 2008 Reviewer: Carol from FL I never thought that I would enjoy my chicks so much. This is my first time ordering chicks, and my first time attempting to raise chickens. My Ameraucanas are a joy to watch with their puffy heads and little bodies. They come right up to my hand and wait to get picked up! Thank you everyone, I am highly pleased.

Year - Round Easter Eggs :-), February 7, 2008 Reviewer: Hippieman from California There's something whimsical and attractive about presenting someone with a dozen eggs that are different pastel colors. I got these birds as day old chicks and folks are still talking about the green eggs.
