Black Australorps are one of the most popular producers of large brown eggs and are known for their persistence in laying - even in hot weather. When mature, these birds have glossy, all-black feathers that show a gorgeous green sheen, particularly in the sunlight. From the time these chicks hatch until they are fully grown, their feathers have white tips. Average mature weight: roosters 5 1/2 lbs., hens 5 lbs.

sweet birds, July 26, 2009 Reviewer: Karen from NY Thank you Meyer's for my beautiful Black Australorps: Cher and Mabeline are the sweetest of our flock of thirteen; they are calm and BEG to be held. They purr and fall fast asleep in my hands and now on my chest! Good to know they will also be good layers.
Entire flock is healthy and treat each other well: 4 Red Rhodes,3 New Englands,3 Plymoth Rocks and 3 Black Australorps. Love "em all!

GREAT LAYERS, January 18, 2009 Reviewer: Nick from OH We purchased Black Australorps last year and they have always been great layers, even through the summer heat and the sub-zero temps. We have collected an average of four eggs a day from 6 Black Australorps!
