Buff Orpingtons are a popular dual-purpose variety, and are sometimes called "Big Buffs." Because they are loosely feathered they appear to be heavier than their true weights. Their golden buff feathers are broad and smooth fitting on this deep-bodied breed. They have quiet dispositions, make excellent mothers, and are of the most broody of all standard breeds. Their white skin is a cosmetic disadvantage for use as meat birds. Also known as Big Buffs. Average mature weights: roosters 8 1/2 lbs., hens 7lbs.

Show Winning Results, September 17, 2007 Reviewer: Kandace from NC We purchased some SR Buff Orpington chicks that arrived on Valentine's Day of this year. We wanted to let you know that we took a rooster and a hen to the Cumberland County Fair (APA competition) here in North Carolina with wonderful results! The rooster got Class Champion and the hen got Reserve Class Champion. We are thrilled! A lot of people where commenting on how pretty they were and we told them that we got them from you. We will be ordering more in the future! Thanks!
