This old-time favorite lays brown eggs and is big enough for the soup kettle. The plumage on these birds is barred (or striped) with black and white. If you like some variety in your flock, you need the Barred Rock. Average mature weight: roosters 7 to 7 1/2 lbs., hens 6 lbs.

Great Chickens, November 21, 2009 Reviewer: Mark from IL This was my first time ordering chickens. Many people have told me to expect to lose a few chicks. The chicks from Meyer Hatchery came in great condition and all are still doing great. We haven't lost one and are very pleased with the service and quality of the chicks. I'll be ordering more in the spring.
