This old-time favorite lays brown eggs and is big enough for the soup kettle. The plumage on these birds is barred (or striped) with black and white. If you like some variety in your flock, you need the Barred Rock. Average mature weight: roosters 7 to 7 1/2 lbs., hens 6 lbs.

Very Happy with First Order, September 11, 2008

I ordered 4 chicks (2 Barred Rocks, 1 Rhode Island Red, and 1 Black Star) which arrived as promised. The package was quite sturdy, lined with soft material, and included a little heat pack. All the chicks arrived in good health and are doing great. I’m so glad that Meyer Hatchery has the small order program to accommodate those of us that cannot have large numbers of chickens.
