This old-time favorite lays brown eggs and is big enough for the soup kettle. The plumage on these birds is barred (or striped) with black and white. If you like some variety in your flock, you need the Barred Rock. Average mature weight: roosters 7 to 7 1/2 lbs., hens 6 lbs.

Award winning chickens, November 21, 2009 Reviewer: Edward from KY We received our barred rocks in March and my 10 yr old showed two of them, a male and female in August at the Kentucky State Fair. Well, when we went back to Louisville to get the chickens, they had won two 2nd place awards. The Fair folks said they had more entries this year than before. There were a lot of entries. Not bad for a beginner who had never shown a chicken before! Thanks Meyer Hatchery, it was indeed a memorable occasion. By the way, we really like the dispositions of the barred rocks, and the nice brown eggs!

Very Happy with First Order, September 11, 2008 Reviewer: Lillian from VA I ordered 4 chicks (2 Barred Rocks, 1 Rhode Island Red, and 1 Black Star) which arrived as promised. The package was quite sturdy, lined with soft material, and included a little heat pack. All the chicks arrived in good health and are doing great. I’m so glad that Meyer Hatchery has the small order program to accommodate those of us that cannot have large numbers of chickens. Customer Service was friendly and Charlotte was very helpful in ensuring prompt delivery. I would definitely recommend Meyer!
