Faverolles were orginally bred by the French to be layers as well as for meat. Instead of white, their eggs are slightly tinted. This breed of chickens feathers beards and feathers on their feet and legs. Salmon Faverolle hens have a rounded appearance and are light salmon brown color with creamy white breast, beard and muff. Roosters have white neck (hackle) feathers, a black beard and muff; a reddish/salmon brown back with black breast, body, legs, and primary tail and wing feathers. Average mature weight: roosters 8 lbs., hens 61/2 lbs.

Beautiful birds but not very practical, April 14, 2009 Reviewer: Dee from CO At one time I kept nine S.F. Such beautiful hens and roosters! However not very good layers and they did not do well with the winter snow on the feathered legs. I felt the hens did not tolerate the rooster very well. The rooster was very mean most of the time. The eggs were small and cream colored. The hens were docile and would be good with children. I believe they died off within two years due to the cold Colorado winters. They were more for show and enjoyment.
