Consider raising the Rainbow Ranger Broiler chickens as an alternative to our fast-growing White Cornish Cross Broilers. The Rainbow Ranger originates from France, where local chefs rave over the flavorful meat. Rangers grow at a moderate rate and are more active than White Broilers; therefore, they are well-suited for pastured-poultry or free-range operations.
The Rainbow Ranger assortment will consist of a mix of colors, including the Redbro and Tricolor. The Redbro have dark red feathers on the body with a black tail. The tricolor is a mix of gold, black, gray, and red feathers with a black tail. Rainbow Rangers have yellow shanks, beaks, and skin. Color is hatchery choice. Customers have reported average live weights of 5-6 pounds at processing time of 9-11 weeks.
Ranger Broilers are a special hybrid that we have fine-tuned over many generations, specifically for fast growth rates for meat production. Because they are a hybrid, you cannot cross a male and female Ranger Broiler and hatch out more Ranger Broilers. Additionally, for their own health and well-being, Ranger Broilers should not be kept beyond their processing age of 9-11 weeks.
Ranger Broilers will need to be in a brooder for 3-4 weeks or until fully feathered. Start the brooder temperature at 95 degrees, decreasing by 5 degrees each week. At that point, they will be fully feathered out and ready for your pasture.
We recommend adding Vital Pack Plus to any meat breed’s drinking source. Ranger Broilers can occasionally have leg issues and/or get wobbly if they are not properly fed with a high-quality feed. Vitamins will help prevent or correct vitamin deficiencies that may be a result of their fast growth rate and the nutritional value of feed.
Your Ranger Broilers will dress out at approximately 68-70% of live weight.
