Tufted Buff Geese

Tufted Buffs were developed in Missouri in the early 1900’s by crossbreeding Tufted Roman with American Buff. The two breeds were crossed until a buff goose of a medium size with a distinct tuft of feathers on the crown of the head was produced. They are active and curious birds, good foragers, and most people will report that they are fairly quiet and friendly. They are prolific layers and the eggs they lay have high fertility. However, hatching can cause a problem. They must have good humidity control when incubated. This variety is hardier and has a richer amount of feathering than the American Buff.
